A new study from the travel site HelloDoorCounty.com ranks the ten smartest Green Bay Packers players based on their college academics, highlighting scholar-athletes excelling both mentally and physically.

FORESTVILLE, WI – November 28, 2023 – A new study from HelloDoorCounty.com has identified the ten smartest players on the Green Bay Packers based on the global rankings of the universities they attended. The study aims to showcase scholar-athletes who excel both intellectually and physically.

Topping the list is rookie defensive back Kyu Blu Kelly, who played for Stanford University, which ranked 3rd best among the top universities in the world by U.S. News & World Report.

“We wanted to highlight the importance of education and how it intersects with athletics,” said Mark Stoneman, founder of HelloDoorCounty.com. “These players are role models both for their success on the field, but also their academic achievements.”

The study notes that the U.S. is facing declining physical activity and academic performance among young people. “Showcasing scholar-athletes like those on the Packers demonstrates to youth how crucial the relationship is between the mind and body,” Stoneman said.

Second on the list is defensive end Kenny Clark, who attended UCLA, which also ranked 14th globally. “Clark studied African-American studies, showing how football and academics aligned during his college years,” the study states.

Offensive lineman Sean Rhyan is also tied for second. He attended UCLA as well, majoring in geography and environmental studies. “Rhyan demonstrates intellect both on and off the field,” Stoneman remarked.

Other players in the top 10 are linebacker Rashan Gary (University of Michigan, #19), offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr. (University of Michigan, #19), tight end Tyler Davis (UC Connecticut, master’s degree in economics from Georgia Tech), center Josh Myers (Ohio State University, #55), linebacker De’Vondre Campbell (University of Minnesota, #55), safety Darnell Savage (University of Maryland, #57), and tackle David Bakhtiari (University of Colorado, #70).

“We feel this list truly captures a great blend of talent and intellect within the Packers organization,” said Stoneman. “From young players to seasoned veterans, these men dominate in the classroom and on the gridiron.”

Stoneman explained their methodology focused on the global reputation of each player’s college “to showcase the broad range of academic prowess on the team. It was thrilling to assemble this roster of genuinely smart athletes.”

He further reiterated that the goal of the study was to motivate youth. “The mind-body connection is undeniable. When young people see their heroes achieving greatness mentally and physically, it can inspire them to push harder academically while staying active.”

The study notes that scholar-athletes like those on the list “demonstrate that peak athletic performance need not come at the expense of excellent educational achievement.” Stoneman continues, “We want to spread the message that you can be a star pupil and a star player simultaneously. These Packers show it’s possible at the highest levels.”

He added the study was timely, given worries over declining scholastic and athletic efforts among young people nationwide. “But these players prove there’s no need to choose one or the other. You can work hard on both fronts and excel. That’s the inspirational lesson we hope resonates.”
