June 19 04:24 2023

New Taipei City’s “Energy-Saving E-House” project, which introduced intelligent energy efficiency management to architecture, has won international recognition with two awards. The project was selected from 500 teams worldwide and awarded the Global Gold prize for Energy Efficiency in the Green World Awards 2023 by The Green Organization, a UK-based environmental group. The project also received the Global Smart Solution Award from the International Climate Development Institute (ICDI) and the ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability in the Effectiveness & Synergy category, giving New Taipei the highest score and making it a global urban model.

Cheng Da-We, commissioner of the Environmental Protection Department, said that New Taipei City released the “New Taipei City 2050 Net Zero Roadmap and Climate Action White Paper” last year to achieve its goal of net zero emissions by 2050, outlining the city’s zero net emissions targets and pathways to demonstrate its determination on climate issues. According to New Taipei City’s greenhouse gas inventory analysis, the emissions from the residential and commercial sectors accounted for about 39% of the city’s total emissions, and it is necessary to promote energy efficiency and carbon reduction in buildings. Through collaboration between the public and private sectors, the “Energy-Saving E-House” project revealed the energy efficiency level of private buildings and cooperated with real estate agents to publish communities with excellent electricity saving performance on the online housing transaction platform, allowing people to understand the energy performance of buildings in communities before purchasing or renting them and achieves effective monitoring of building energy saving.

The Environmental Protection Department stated that the “Energy-Saving E-House” project has been recognized domestically and internationally since its launch last year. It not only won the Value-added services of digital innovation at the fifth “Government Service Award” by the Executive Yuan but also won two international awards this year. The Green World Awards aim to commend outstanding local government organizations, enterprises, or communities around the world for their environmental actions, emphasizing environmental benefits, innovation, commitment to environmental plans, social benefits, economic benefits, quantification of benefits, future extension plans, and replicability, which can drive international environmental trends, encourage effective resource utilization, and support sustainable development. In 2023, a total of 500 teams (including 17 government units) from around the world competed for 33 gold, silver, and bronze awards in the Green World Awards, with fierce competition. New Taipei City stood out and won the Global Gold Award in the Energy Efficiency category, making it the only award-winning city in Taiwan.

The Global Smart Solution award is jointly presented by the ICDI and the ICLEI, and the “Energy-Saving E-House” project scored the highest in the Effectiveness & Synergy category. The project will be published in the “2023 Global Smart Solution Report” to provide global urban leaders with reference and promotion of innovative and effective solutions for sustainable development.
